Cognex launches the industry's first image-based airport baggage handling and recognition solution

发布时间:2016/07/06

Cognex designs, develops, produces, and sells various products that integrate complex machine vision technologies, known as "visual" products. Cognex products include code readers, machine vision sensors, and machine vision systems widely used in factories, warehouses, and distribution centers worldwide, which can guide, measure, detect, identify products and ensure their quality during production and distribution processes.

The global leader in the field of machine vision, Cognex (NASDAQ: CGNX), announced today the launch of the Airport Baggage Handling Identification Solution (ABH-ID), which is the first image based automatic tag reader (ATR) system to overcome the limitations of current laser baggage ID systems. Compared to laser systems, Cognex technology has a higher reading rate, which can reduce the associated costs of loss due to manual transportation or delayed baggage handling. Air transportation grows at a rate of 8% annually, placing a huge burden on the baggage handling system that has remained unchanged for the past 30 years. The Cognex ABH-ID solution uses improved and recognized technology in the air transportation industry to read code that is difficult to decipher using traditional methods, and provides a high-speed read rate to read labels damaged by loading and unloading of goods at critical stages such as transfer lines. "Until now, reading transportation labels remains a challenging task due to the countless processing times each package undergoes, making it easy to cause label damage. We have designed a recognition and tracking system that has the advantages of an image reader and is more competitive in price compared to laser systems." said Jay Bouton, New Business Development Manager at Cognex, Airport Luggage Handling. "Through on-site demonstration on an international transportation line, it has been proven that Cognex 'reading rate is 15% higher than the current laser code readers." This new solution from Cognex is of particular significance because International Air Transport Association Resolution 753 requires all airline members to prove that luggage has been safely collected and delivered at the three transport points (loading, transportation, and arrival) during transportation starting from June 2018. The quality and readability of the labels may be affected by smudges, scratches, or weather during each luggage handling. The ABH-ID solution has excellent performance and can quickly and accurately read damaged labels. A lower "unread rate" means fewer missed flights, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the baggage handling system, reducing manual encoding operations, and increasing customer satisfaction. The Cognex ABH-ID solution uses the industry-leading DataMan fixed installation image barcode reader. Compared to laser scanners with worn and non-conforming parts during the event, image-based code readers have a stable design and require almost no maintenance. This solution also utilizes the patent pending Xpand technology, which can be flexibly installed in space limited environments. Xpand technology provides higher redundancy and a larger perspective, making installation simpler and reducing overall system costs. The baggage handling and identification solution for Cognex Airport has been launched for sale. MicroAsia Technology's Cognex engineers can provide consultation to airport managers at any time, offering on-site demonstrations and free trial installations.
